:: Influenza (H1N1) Information
Edmonton Public Schools continues to monitor the influenza H1N1 virus and to take our lead from Alberta Health Services. We are continuously updating our Pandemic Response Plan as new information becomes available.
As we start the new school year, here's what we're doing:
- Schools and district buildings are posting signs asking people not to enter if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms.
- Pandemic kits are being distributed to schools to help establish sick rooms should students and staff become ill at school.
- Schools are reviewing proper handwashing and infection control practices such as sneezing and coughing in the sleeve with students.
- The daily tracking of student and staff absences will continue. Parents will now be asked to provide information about the reason for their child's absence such as an illness, injury or a medical/dental appointment. This information will help Alberta Health Services track the flu in our schools.
- We are encouraging all parents to develop family pandemic plans. This should include planning for your child's care if you or they become ill with the virus. Consider now who might be able to help you.
We will also continue to provide important school and health information to all staff and parents so you are aware of the simple steps that can be taken to lessen the spread of the H1N1 virus.
Edmonton Public Schools is working with our municipal and provincial health counterparts to ensure our response plan aligns with the City's and Province's action plans.
