News item: Inclusive Education Advisory Committee Vacancy 5

We count on support from parents and external partners strongly interested in special education to help us build the inclusive system we envision for our District. If you’re a parent who can help us provide a welcoming, inclusive school experience for all children, apply to join our Inclusive Education Parent and Community Advisory Committee.

We’re accepting applications until 4 p.m. October 30, 2017, to fill two parent positions on the committee.

Our Inclusive Education Parent and Community Advisory Committee is made up of 10 members of the public and two representatives from District administration.

The committee helps the District strengthen its inclusive education system by:

  • enhancing how the District’s Inclusive Education policy and regulations are put into practice
  • providing information and advice to District administrators
  • working to bring Alberta Education’s Principles of Inclusive Education to life in our classrooms

I am confident that I'm making a real difference ... I get to know that we’re making it better for all children, not just my own child – and we’re making it better for the next 10 years of children.

“As a committee, we get to speak directly to decision makers … Heads of different departments actually come to us when they have new projects, gathering our input. It feels much more proactive than reactive – like we’re creating change, rather than fighting it.

– Wendy Sauve, parent and past committee member

Members of the committee are expected to:

  • serve a two-year term
  • attend three early evening meetings at the Centre for Education each year

Two candidates will be chosen to fill parent vacancies on the committee. Other applicants may be asked to fill vacant positions throughout the year.Committee members are chosen at the discretion of District administration, which seeks a balanced representation of:

  • parents with children currently attending District schools, and
  • other interested community members

Interviews may be arranged to help with the selection process.

Complete the application form by 4 p.m. October 30, 2017.
