Student Transportation Fees Update for Parents

News item: Student Transportation Fees Update for Parents

On June 10, the Board of Trustees approved the 2014-2015 bus pass fees. In order to maintain the same level of service we have now, we’ve had to increase the costs for bus passes for elementary and junior/senior high students. The last time the District increased bus fees was four years ago.

WHAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE?

If families choose annual passes, discounts are offered on those rates.

WHY ARE FEES INCREASING?

Busing costs have risen due to an increase in demand for transportation services from new and developing communities over the past two years, higher costs paid to yellow bus carriers and a reduction in provincial transportation funding.

WHAT ARE WE DOING TO SAVE MONEY?

The Student Transportation Services department is always looking for ways to save on busing. Earlier this year, the Board of Trustees agreed to continue working with Edmonton Catholic Schools through the Edmonton Transportation Consortium to look for efficiencies that could lead to better service, lower costs and shorter ride times for all students.

Every day over 27,000 District students travel across the City to and from their school. Ensuring your children are transported to school safely and reliably every day is what drives us.
