News item: Changes to School and Transportation Fees

Earlier this spring, the Alberta government passed Bill 1: An Act to Reduce School Fees. Watch the School and Transportation Fees video to learn more about changes and what it means for you.

SCHOOL FEES

School fees are set by each individual school and are available on your school's website.

For the 2017-18 school year, you will not be charged for:

  • textbooks (not including a refundable deposit)
  • workbooks
  • photocopying
  • printing and paper supplies

You may be charged for other items like:

  • refundable textbook deposits
  • lunch supervision
  • alternative programs
  • optional or complementary courses
  • activities like field trips
  • extracurricular clubs and activities
  • non-curricular supplies, like agendas
  • other optional goods and services

For more information about school fees, please contact your school, or read the District’s Guide to School and Transportation Fees.

TRANSPORTATION FEES

Bus pass fees are also changing. You may pay less, or your fees may be similar to what they were before, depending on:

For more information about bus pass fees, contact Student Transportation at 780-429-8585 or speak to someone at your school.

WAIVERS AND REFUNDS FOR SCHOOL FEES

Talk to your child's school if:

  • you can't pay for your child's school fees. Fees may be waived for families with exceptional financial circumstances.
  • you require a refund. Refunds are assessed and determined on an case-by-case basis with your school.

Families requesting a waiver or refund will need to fill out an alternate payment and refund form. Your school can help you complete the form.
