Head Custodian

Edmonton Public Schools is seeking a full-time, permanent Head Custodian to join the staff at Donald R. Getty School. As the ideal candidate, you will be responsible for the care, cleaning and security of the building and immediate grounds and for the safe operation and maintenance of heating and mechanical equipment. 
The Head Custodian will:
• perform and/or organize all cleaning duties
• maintain floors including scrubbing, waxing, stripping, and refinishing
• maintain the building and the heating and mechanical equipment
• supervise and train custodial staff
• maintain the security of the building 
• assist with coordination of the school’s health and safety program
• assist building tenants, parents and members of the community 
• perform administrative duties
• move furniture (set-up and remove furniture for school functions)
• remove snow
• high school diploma
• minimum 3 years of progressive experience including supervision
• a valid Building Operator “B” Certificate or 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate (a copy of current certificate must be included with application)
• related custodial training
• demonstrated ability to perform all custodial functions
• demonstrated knowledge of and ability to effectively operate and maintain heating and mechanical systems
• demonstrated knowledge of cleaning products and disinfecting procedures
• demonstrated knowledge of and ability to effectively operate and perform minor routine maintenance on all power equipment
• demonstrated knowledge of health and safety, fire and security protocol
• demonstrated knowledge of safe chemical management practices
• demonstrated knowledge of basic spill clean-up procedures for blood spills and minor chemical spills
• demonstrated ability to plan and organize
• ability to meet the physical demands of the position
• proven ability to mentor, supervise, train, evaluate and manage performance of custodial staff
• proven budget management skills
• strong verbal and written communication skills
The successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete related occupational health and safety courses as required by the employer.
