MANAGER, PROJECT MANAGEMENT OFFICE

Description

Reporting to the Director, Project Management Office, this role is an integral part of the PMO Leadership team and is responsible for working with staff to oversee all components of project management including procurement, communication, schedules and budgets.  This position will foster a community of collaboration with staff and stakeholders both inside and outside of the District.

ABOUT US:

Infrastructure is responsible for providing safe learning environments for staff and students. The Infrastructure Project Management Office is responsible for design, planning, project management and construction. We are responsible for the development and maintenance of the Major Maintenance Plan which is block funded by the Alberta Government's Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal Fund (IMR). We are also responsible for the implementation of the district's Capital Plan.

ABOUT YOU:

  • you are a skilled coach and mentor and know how to develop and engage a team
  • you are skilled at developing and implementing project management best practices
  • you bring a wide range of expertise to this role, including extensive knowledge of project management processes, tendering, contract law, and construction practices
  • you build strong relationships with direct reports, peers, administrators, and stakeholders

ABOUT YOUR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • a diploma in Architectural Technology, Interior Design Technology or Project Management
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • minimum of six years work experience, including experience in a public sector organization, preferably education
  • demonstrated ability to foster relationships and develop partnerships
  • well-developed team leadership and supervisory skills

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Manager, Project Management Office will:

  • have overall responsibility for the implementation of the District’s IMR plan
  • provide leadership, supervision, and direction to staff working on both IMR and Decision Unit funded projects
  • review and approve scope, budget and schedule changes for projects
  • ensure development of communication plans for each project
  • support implementation of key performance indicators and evaluate KPI’s by continuously auditing the project management and quality control processes
  • liaise with various departments regarding vendor prequalification, tender and contract review, building audits, project scheduling, and financial reporting and tracking

  • provide leadership, supervision, and direction to staff working on Capital Modernization, Capital New Construction, District Modular Program, Student Accommodation/Program initiated, and furniture and equipment projects
  • review and approve scope, budget and schedule changes for projects
  • ensure development of communication plans for each project  
  • support implementation of key performance indicators and evaluate KPI’s by continuously auditing the project management and quality control processes
  • liaise with various departments regarding vendor prequalification, tender and contract review, student accommodation and program placement, project scheduling, and financial reporting and tracking
