The English as a Second Language (ESL) Reception Centres provide students and families who are new to Canada with information about the public school system and English language assessment. Student assessments and family interviews are held by appointment only, at one of four reception centres: Harry Ainlay, Jasper Place, J. Percy Page and Eastglen schools.

Learn about the school system, school expectations and supports available for newcomer students
Awareness of how schools support newcomer students and families
One-on-one consultation in a welcoming environment
Increased confidence attending school in Canada
An appointment with a consultant to assess a student’s English language skills
A family interview to gather information about a student’s background and academic history
Assistance with choosing a program
Support for families and students in their first language
Upon registration at a school, an appointment is made at one of four ESL Reception Centres for students who:
Arrived in Canada after the start of the previous school year
Enrolled in Grades 1 to 12
