David Thomas King School in Secord (Lewis Farms) will accommodate:
Lewis Farms is a collection of neighbourhoods in west Edmonton. David Thomas King School will be built in the Secord neighbourhood, on the northeast side of the site, on Secord Blvd.
Schools start accepting registration forms for students who are new to the District on February 1, 2017.
If your child is new to Edmonton Public Schools, you'll need to complete a Student Registration form. Because the 11 new schools are still under construction, you can submit a completed registration form at any District school. When registering at a school:
The school will make sure your registration package is delivered to the principal of David Thomas King School. Learn more about registering a new student and examples of accepted documentation.
If your child is currently attending a District school and would like to attend one of the new schools for the 2017-2018 school year, you can select the school by signing in to your parent SchoolZone account to pre-enrol between March 13 and April 18. Learn more about pre-enrolling current District students in SchoolZone.
Students living in the attendance area are guaranteed entrance to the school. Students living outside the attendance area may be accepted if there is still room after students in the attendance area have been accommodated.
If the number of students who want to attend the school exceeds the available space, applicants from outside the school’s designated attendance area (but within the City of Edmonton) are chosen by random selection. Learn more about random selection.
The Superintendent has approved the following attendance area for David Thomas King School:

We chose an attendance area that would allow as many students as possible to attend a school close to home, and we did our best to keep families and communities together. We were also careful to make sure the school doesn’t fill up too quickly while communities are still growing. This is a lesson we learned from opening other schools in new areas.
The neighbourhoods of Hawks Ridge, Starling and Trumpeter are included in the attendance area because residents told us they felt that Secord was closer to home, compared to their current designation to McArthur and Rosslyn schools.
Every student who pre-enrols will get to attend their designated school. David Thomas King School has an open attendance boundary, which means that, if there’s still room at the school once students from the primary attendance area are accepted, students from outside the attendance area will be chosen by random selection.
The school will carefully manage enrolment to make sure there’s room for new students who move into the school’s primary attendance area, and we hope this will minimize the need to change attendance areas in the future.
For questions about the attendance area decision, contact the Planning department at 780-429-8539.
The new school in Secord will be named after David Thomas King, a former politician and education advocate. The Board of Trustees approved this school name, along with the names of eight more new schools, at a public board meeting on June 21, 2016. Ivor Dent and Michael Phair schools, which are also opening in September 2017, were named the previous year.
