Edmonton Public Schools is proposing a redesignation for Grades 10-12 for the Big Lake area.
The neighbourhoods affected include:
The Big Lake area is currently designated to Ross Sheppard School for high school. We are considering redesignating the area to Jasper Place School for high school, effective for the 2019–20 school year.
We promised the community we would ensure the high school designation matched the feeder pattern for the community’s elementary and junior high school designation. We are fulfilling our promise by proposing a redesignation for the Big Lake area to Jasper Place School. This means students could transition to high school with their peers from David Thomas King School.
If the proposed redesignation is approved, the change would be in effect for the 2019–20 school year.
Edmonton Public Schools will make a final decision about the proposed redesignation by the end of January before families choose their school for next year. We will share information with families once a decision is made.
Students from these neighbourhoods who currently attend Ross Sheppard School could stay at the school. Siblings would also be able to attend, as long as an older sibling is currently attending the school at the time of pre-enrolment.
For students who will attend Jasper Place High School:
For students choosing to remain at Ross Sheppard School:
Thank you to everyone who attended our drop-in information night in November. We will inform families about a decision for the proposed redesignation before pre-enrolment begins in March.
