Cavanagh K-9 Redesignation

ATTENDANCE AREA REDESIGNATION

BACKGROUND

In December 2018, parents, families and community members were invited to attend an information meeting to discuss a proposed Kindergarten to Grade 9 redesignation for the Cavanagh neighbourhood for 2019-20.

KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 9 REDESIGNATION DECISION

Effective for the 2019-20 school year, the Cavanagh neighbourhood will be redesignated to:

Dr. Lila Fahlman School will have closed boundaries for the 2019-20 school year. This means students who live outside the attendance area and who do not currently attend Dr. Lila Fahlman School will not be able to register or pre-enrol at the school.

‌REASONS FOR THE CHANGE

Dr. Lila Fahlman School is filling up quickly, and we need to adjust the attendance area. By adjusting the attendance area now, Cavanagh students who currently attend Dr. Lila Fahlman School can stay at the school.

The redesignation will only impact families moving into the Cavanagh area or families who do not have children currently attending Dr. Lila Fahlman School.

CHOOSING TO REMAIN AT YOUR CURRENT SCHOOL

Students from the Cavanagh neighbourhood who currently attend Dr. Lila Fahlman School could stay at the school. Siblings would also be able to attend, as long as an older sibling is currently attending the school and both siblings will be attending at the same time in 2019-20.

GETTING TO SCHOOL

Yellow bus service will be provided to eligible students attending their designated elementary school. Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) is the preferred transportation method for junior high students; however, if ETS does not meet District standards, eligible junior high school students attending their designated school may apply for yellow bus service.

Students from the Cavanagh neighbourhood who are currently enrolled at Dr. Lila Fahlman School and choose to stay at the school may have conditional yellow bus ridership options. Students may be able to request to ride on an existing route if there is space on the bus. More information will be available closer to pre-enrolment.

PRE-ENROLMENT FOR THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR

Parents with children currently enrolled in a District school can sign into SchoolZone and choose their preferred school for next year between March 11 and April 15, 2019. Students are guaranteed entry to their designated school if they register or pre-enrol by April 15, 2019 at 4 p.m.
