Glenridding Ravine Proposed K-9 Redesignation

PROPOSED ATTENDANCE AREA REDESIGNATION

Glenridding Ravine is currently designated to Lendrum School for Kindergarten to Grade 6 and Avalon School for Grades 7-9.

We are considering a redesignation for the Glenridding Ravine neighbourhood to George H. Luck School for Kindergarten to Grade 6 and Riverbend School for Grades 7-9, effective for the 2019–20 school year.

REASONS FOR THE PROPOSED CHANGE

We are proposing this redesignation because it would allow students to attend schools closer to their community.

TIMELINES

If the proposed redesignation is approved, the change would be in effect for the 2019-20 school year.

Edmonton Public Schools will make a final decision about the proposed redesignation by the end of January before families choose their school for next year. We will share information with families once a decision is made.

CHOOSING TO REMAIN AT YOUR CURRENT SCHOOL

Students from Glenridding Ravine who currently attend Lendrum or Avalon schools could stay. However, yellow bus service would no longer be provided because students would not be attending their designated school.

GETTING TO SCHOOL

Yellow bus service would be provided to eligible students who attend their designated elementary school. Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) is the preferred transportation method for junior high students; however, if ETS does not meet District standards, eligible junior high students may apply for yellow bus service.

If the proposed redesignation goes ahead, families who choose to stay at Lendrum and Avalon schools would need to make their own arrangements for students to get to and from school.
