Mill Creek School Replacement Project

On March 21, 2017, the Province of Alberta announced funding to build a replacement school for Mill Creek School

On May 10, 2017, we hosted a community visioning session where families and community members were invited to learn about the project and provide input on a vision for the future of Mill Creek School. We used the feedback to develop a possible concept for the school and presented the concept back to the community at a meeting on June 15, 2017.

Thank you to everyone attended the meetings and provided input. We included many of your suggestions into our design, which was presented at a public meeting on September 21.

Some of the design highlights for the school’s interior include:

  • natural light in all occupied spaces
  • a larger gymnasium
  • large and flexible collaborative spaces for staff and students
  • a dance studio
  • a kitchen for community use

Two notable changes for the school’s exterior include:

  • separate bus and parent drop-off areas to ease congestion
  • a plaza that will act as an outdoor learning space and host our annual Fiesta

Construction begins on October 16, 2017. To help minimize disruptions in the community:

  • workers will be bused to and from the construction site to reduce traffic
  • major deliveries will happen from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
  • the hours of construction will be from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • the playground and soccer fields will remain available during demolition and construction
