Edmonton Public Schools is proposing a redesignation for Kindergarten to Grade 6 for the Windermere Estates Southwest neighbourhood. The area is currently designated to attend McKee School for Kindergarten to Grade 6. We are considering a redesignation for the area to Constable Daniel Woodall School for Kindergarten to Grade 6, effective for the 2019–20 school year.
We want students to attend a school close to home whenever possible. The proposed redesignation means students could attend a school in their community. Students would still be designated to Riverbend School (junior high) and Lillian Osborne School (high school), which means they would transition with their peers.
Students from the Windermere Estates Southwest neighbourhood who currently attend McKee School could stay at the school. Siblings would also be able to attend, as long as an older sibling is currently attending the school at the time of registration or pre-enrolment. However, yellow bus service would no longer be provided because students would not be attending their designated school.
Yellow bus service would be provided to eligible elementary students in the Windermere Estates Southwest neighbourhood who attend their designated school.
If the proposed redesignation is approved, the change would be in effect for the 2019–20 school year. Edmonton Public Schools will make a final decision about the proposed redesignation by the end of January before families choose their school for next year. We will share information with families once a decision is made.
