New provincial curriculum in the 2024–25 school year

Wed, 1 May, 2024

News item: New provincial curriculum 2024-25

In September 2024, Grades 4 to 6 students will learn new provincial curriculum in the following subjects:

  • Science
  • French Immersion Language Arts and Literature

The province is also giving school divisions the option to pilot the draft social studies curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade 6. The Division is inviting Kindergarten to Grade 6 teachers to express interest in piloting the draft social studies curriculum. Interested teachers can choose to implement all or part of the curriculum in the coming school year.

The Government of Alberta determines the new curriculum content and timelines for implementation. It is being developed and introduced in schools over a number of years.

Preparing staff for success

In Edmonton Public Schools, students in 178 schools will learn this new curriculum in the 2024–25 school year. We will continue to focus on preparing staff and setting students up for success in September. Grade 4 to 6 educators will have professional learning opportunities throughout the school year, and access to teaching and learning resources to support new curriculum implementation.
