Edmonton Public Schools expanding language and Cogito programs for 2017-18 school year

Edmonton Public Schools is expanding some of the District’s most popular alternative programs for the 2017-2018 school year and putting them in areas where we know there is high demand. This allows students to enrol in a program that’s closer to home.
The Superintendent has approved a recommendation to add the following alternative programs for the 2017-2018 school year:
- Spanish Bilingual at Strathcona School for one Grade 10 class
- Pre-Advanced Placement at McKernan School for one class per grade for Grades 7-9
- Cogito at Lymburn School and Michael Phair School. At Lymburn School, the program will be offered as one Kindergarten class. At Michael Phair School, the program will be offered as one class per grade for Grades 7-9, depending on demand during pre-enrolment.
- Arabic Bilingual at Evansdale School for one Kindergarten class or one Kindergarten and one Grade 1 class, depending on demand during pre-enrolment.
HOW TO REGISTER
If your child is already attending a District school, you will need to indicate your preferred school and the alternative program your child would like to enrol in through SchoolZone during pre-enrolment from March 13 to April 18, 2017. Learn more about pre-enrolment.
If your child is entering Kindergarten or is new to Edmonton Public Schools, you need to complete a Student Registration form and submit it to the school you will be attending. If you have trouble getting the form online, you can pick up a paper copy from any District school.
The deadline to register is April 18, 2017.
NEXT STEPS
The school will contact parents by April 25, 2017 to confirm registration and provide more information. We also encourage students and parents to attend a school open house to learn more about the program and school.
