Attendance Area For Thelma Chalifoux

BACKGROUND

Thank you to everyone who attended the Thelma Chalifoux School proposed attendance area meeting last year and shared feedback through our online survey. Your feedback was considered throughout the decision-making process.

ATTENDANCE AREA DECISION

The following neighbourhoods are in the attendance area for Thelma Chalifoux School, effective for the 2020-21 school year:

  • Aster
  • Jackson Heights
  • Kiniski Gardens
  • Larkspur
  • Maple
  • Tamarack Common
  • Wild Rose

Thelma Chalifoux School will have an open attendance area boundary. Students living outside the attendance area can enrol if there’s space. If demand exceeds available space, students from outside the attendance area will be enrolled through random selection.

GETTING TO SCHOOL

Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) is the preferred transportation method for junior high students. However, if ETS does not meet Division standards, eligible students attending their designated school may be able to apply for yellow bus service.

CHOOSING TO REMAIN AT YOUR CURRENT SCHOOL

Students can stay at their current junior high school if they wish. However, if yellow bus service is currently being provided, families would need to make their own plans to get students to school, as they would no longer be attending their designated school.

HOW WE MADE THE DECISION

We used feedback we heard at the proposed attendance area meeting last year and through our online survey. We also tried to make decisions that:

  • allow as many students as possible to attend a school closer to home
  • ensures the school has a manageable attendance area to accomodate students as communities grow
  • can allow students outside of the attenadnce area to enrol if there's space

REGISTRATION AND PRE-ENROLMENT

New students to Edmonton Public Schools will be able to register from February 3 – April 15, 2020. Current Edmonton Public Schools students can pre-enrol between March 9 – April 15, 2020. Students who register or pre-enrol by April 15 are guaranteed to attend their designated school.
