Tevie Miller Heritage School Program
Tevie Miller Heritage School Program supports students with diagnosed speech and language delays, disorders or disabilities. Programming includes on-site speech and language pathologists providing a range of language and literacy supports.
Goals
- Improve communication, speech, language and literacy skills
Benefits
- Increased competence and confidence communicating and interacting in a variety of situations
- Improved ability to understand language cues and how to respond appropriately
Program delivery
- Targeted strategies taught and implemented to support students’ learning and individual speech and language goals
- Smaller classes, small group and one-to-one instruction
- Access to a collaborative team model consisting of a teacher, speech language pathologist and educational assistant on a daily basis
- Language and literacy supports provided by speech language pathologist
- A program supporting children diagnosed with speech and language delays, disorders or disabilities
- Opportunity to build fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) as a second language option in Grades 4 to 6
Eligibility
For the Tevie Miller Heritage School Program, students must be:
- in Kindergarten to Grade 6 with at least low average intellectual ability
- presenting with a moderate to severe communication disability and significant academic delays
Students who exhibit a pattern of erratic or inconsistent attendance, or aggressive behaviour are not eligible.
Parents must provide specialized assessment reports such as academic, cognitive, speech language assessment results and programming recommendations. For more information about eligibility, contact Tevie Miller Heritage School Program.
Alberta curriculum
All programming is based on the curriculum determined by Alberta Education. Students enrolled in Tevie Miller Heritage School programming will receive the same high-quality education provided in all our programs.
