News item: French Immersion at Oliver School

Edmonton Public Schools is considering offering French Immersion at Oliver School starting in September 2016.

The Superintendent has approved a recommendation that French Immersion be offered if there are:

  • enough students enrolling in the spring
  • the same number of students, or more, attending the program in the fall

French Immersion will only be available to Kindergarten students for the 2016-2017 school year. As the students move up to Grade 1, the program will be expanded to include Kindergarten and Grade 1. More grades will be added as long as there is sufficient demand.

The deadline to register is April 15.

  • Families that haven’t registered their child: Complete a Student Registration form and submit it to Oliver School. If you’re having trouble accessing the form online, you can also pick up a paper registration form from any District school.

  • Families that have registered their child elsewhere: If you’ve registered your child in Kindergarten and would like switch to French Immersion at Oliver School, you’ll need to get your registration form from the other school and bring it to Oliver School.

If there are not enough students registered by April 15 to make the program viable or if the number of students attending in the fall is too low, the program will not be offered for the 2016-2017 school year.

The school will notify families that have registered and help them register their child in Kindergarten at another District school.
