Bilingual and immersion programs allow students to learn a language other than English. Entry begins in Kindergarten or Grade 1 without previous knowledge of the language. Entry after Grade 1 is determined on an individual basis.
The District's Institute for Innovation in Second Language Education (IISLE) is the first comprehensive institute of its kind in North America, supporting the development and promotion of excellence in second language education.
International Credentials for Languages Services (ICLS) works with foreign and local ministries of education and their agencies to offer students and the general public access to international credentials for their second language proficiency. Candidates take exams to certify their proficiency in French, German, Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin) and Spanish.
