Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement (AP) is an internationally recognized program that prepares students to experience college or university-level courses while enrolled in high school. 

  • Goals

    • Develop academic skills in a challenging learning environment
    • Extend abstract, creative and critical thinking skills
    • Prepare students for post-secondary studies

  • Program delivery

    • In-depth study of advanced concepts
    • Enriched curricula with post-secondary level material
    • Choice between taking one AP course, several courses or a full AP program
    • AP-level courses in calculus, sciences, English, social studies, languages, art and history
  • Eligibility

    To be eligible for this programming, students must be:

    • enrolled in Grades 10 to 12
    • motivated to achieve and enjoy challenges
    • achieving above average in a prerequisite course

  • Alberta curriculum

    All Edmonton Public Schools programming is based on curriculum determined by Alberta Education. Students enrolled in Advanced Placement will receive the same high-quality education offered in all of our programs.
