These numbers represent enrolment on September 30 as submitted to Alberta Education.

Program enrolment may not equal a school's total enrolment because:

  • students may be enrolled in more than one program, and
  • some programs are not shown.

Enrolment data gives parents a general understanding of the number of students at a school or enrolled in a program. Although we’ve made every reasonable effort to ensure the data is accurate, there may still be errors. To confirm enrolment, contact the school.

About awâsis waciston School

At awâsis waciston School, we promote and develop the spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical growth of all students in a safe, caring, respectful and peaceful environment. We offer the Awasis Program to meet the needs of urban Indigenous students from Kindergarten to Grade 6.

Students are supported through a robust literacy and numeracy program, which may include additional support through Leveled Literacy Intervention. All students receive Cree language and culture instruction and are encouraged to participate in the Indigenous History Quiz, fiddle and the mentorship program Coyote Pride for students in division two.

We serve students living on the north side of Edmonton, the majority of which are of Indigenous ancestry. We offer Full-day Kindergarten, and all students can participate in the breakfast program.

Our school is fortunate to engage with community partnerships to support students and families. As an APPLE school, we support students, families and staff in making healthy choices. A focus on the Code of the Golden Feather encourages students to follow the attributes of Honesty, Respect, Integrity and Humility as they develop the skills to be leaders of today and tomorrow!

SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY

We believe:

  • That all students can be successful learners and that all students learn at different rates and in different ways
  • That learning is achieved through the co-operation of students, parents and the community
  • In setting high expectations for academic growth and positive behaviour
