Edmonton Public Schools is opening Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack School in the Meadows area in September 2024. Part of this exciting process includes setting the attendance area for the school.
The new Grades 10–12 high school in the Meadows area will be named after Francis Whiskeyjack. He has been a pillar in the community and has worked with numerous community organizations, including Edmonton Public Schools, as a trusted Elder and cultural advisor.
He is committed to sharing traditional knowledge and teachings, and promoting awareness and understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing. His sincere commitment to advocate on behalf of Indigenous people has earned him immense respect from the Edmonton community.
The Board of Trustees approved this school name at a public board meeting on September 12, 2023.
