Maintenance Career Opportunities

Maintenance positions include both tradesmen and maintenance workers. Maintenance staff are represented by CUPE Local 784.

Edmonton Public Schools accepts applications for general employment from applicants who are available for an interview and readily available for employment.

Applicants must be willing to travel to various locations within the school district.

JOURNEYPERSON INSULATOR

Description

Facilities Maintenance is currently seeking applicants to fill the position of Journeyperson Insulator. Job duties include insulation, asbestos abatement and mold removal in District schools and other buildings.

The successful candidate must:

  • possess good communication and interpersonal skills
  • have the ability to work independently or in team environment
  • be able to undertake tasks that involve bending, kneeling, standing, and some heavy lifting (up to 23 kg)
  • be able to work at heights (ladders and scaffolding) and in noisy extreme temperature  conditions.

Requirements:

  • Alberta Journeyperson Insulator certificate
  • Alberta Occupational Health and Safety for the Asbestos Worker certificate
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Operator’s license
  • Experience with heap-vacuums, negative air units, containment set-up and insulating pipes and duct work of all sizes

Rate of pay:

  • $34.10 per hour (Journeyperson Insulator)

The successful candidate will be required to provide own hand tools; and may be required to operate a District vehicle for up to 1 ton or to drive personal vehicle to work sites within the City of Edmonton. If personal vehicle is used, a bi-weekly advance on expenses will be paid.
