Maintenance Career Opportunities

Maintenance positions include both tradesmen and maintenance workers. Maintenance staff are represented by CUPE Local 784.

Edmonton Public Schools accepts applications for general employment from applicants who are available for an interview and readily available for employment.

Applicants must be willing to travel to various locations within the school district.

Drapery and Blind Repair Mechanic

Description

The successful applicants will be required to:

  • install and repair window coverings in schools and other District buildings
  • repair gym equipment such as mats, climbing ropes, ladders, volleyball and basketball nets, projection screens, folding doors and gym dividers
  • order custom drapes and blinds from external vendors for supply and/or installation
  • complete estimates
  • communicate with school and District staff regarding estimates, scope of work, selection of drapes, and scheduling

Requirements:

  • related training or experience installing and repairing window coverings in commercial buildings
  • must have the ability to: undertake tasks involving lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs) including carrying ladders and other material up to 16’ in length; climb ladders and scaffolding and work at heights; work overhead for prolonged periods; bend, kneel and work in tight, cramped or confined spaces
  • excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills

The successful applicant must possess a valid Alberta driver’s licence and be prepared to use their own vehicle, which must to be suitable for hauling ladders, tools, equipment and other material.

The successful applicant must provide their own tools and equipment related to the trade.

Rate of pay:  $2,622.40 biweekly ($32.78) per hour

Plumber / Gasfitter

Description

The Infrastructure Maintenance area of Edmonton Public Schools requires a full-time Plumber/Gasfitter to assist with installations, maintenance, repairs, multi-trade projects and renovations in District schools and other buildings.

The successful applicants will be required to:

  • install, service and maintain plumbing systems, both supply and drainage
  • install, repair and maintain gas piping and associated equipment, heating systems, including, but not limited to, forced air, hot water and low pressure steam boilers and associated equipment
  • ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications and shop drawings
  • ability to provide emergent service when required

Requirements:

  • must possess a valid Alberta Journeyperson or Interprovincial (Red Seal) certification in the Plumber and Gasfitter “A” trades
  • Journeyperson Steamfitter certification and a valid Cross Connection Control certificate are desirable
  • minimum five years related experience
  • must have the ability to: lift up to 25kg; climb ladders and work at heights; undertake tasks involving frequent bending and kneeling; work in tight, cramped or confined spaces
  • good problem solving, organizational, time management, and record keeping skills
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to work independently or in a team environment

The successful candidate must posses a valid Alberta driver's licence and be prepared to use their own vehicle to travel to work sites within the City of Edmonton.

Rate of Pay: $3,196.80 biweekly ($39.96 per hour)
