New provincial curriculum in the 2025–26 school year

In September 2025, Kindergarten to Grade 3 students will learn new provincial curriculum in social studies.
The province is also giving school divisions the option to field test new draft curriculum in Grades 7 to 9 for:
- mathematics
- social studies
- physical education and wellness
- career education and financial literacy
The decision to field test new draft curriculum will be up to individual teachers.
The Government of Alberta determines the new curriculum content and timelines for implementation. New curriculum is being developed and introduced in schools over a number of years.
Preparing staff for success
We will continue to focus on preparing staff and setting students up for success in September. Educators will have professional learning opportunities throughout the school year, and access to teaching and learning resources to support new curriculum implementation.
