Board statement on province's gender-related announcement

Edmonton Public Schools Board of Trustees reaffirms our commitment to safe, caring, respectful learning environments that foster a sense of belonging for our 2SLGBTQIA+ students and all of the Division’s 117,000 students. 

Our Division works every day to build positive relationships between students, their teachers and other school staff, and support open communication between the school and parents. This has always been our practice and will continue to be foundational to who we are. Parents are, and always have been, a partner in their child’s education at Edmonton Public Schools. We encourage students to express themselves, we meet them where they are at, and we support their learning journey. Our mission is to empower students to live a life of dignity, fulfillment, empathy and possibility.

We will need time to unpack the government’s announcement. We look forward to providing our feedback to the province, so that 2SLGBTQIA+ students will continue to feel safe and welcome in our schools every day.
