Regulation

  1. Up to three (five)* school professional development days per year may be held with the approval of the principal (Superintendent of Schools)* for the purpose of furthering the Division's and school's goals and priorities. See Addendum 1

  2. The principal shall inform the Superintendent of Schools and Transportation Services a minimum of six weeks in advance of a professional development day.* See Addendum 2

  3. School professional development days may not be held on days that would extend vacation periods.* See Addendum 2

NOTE:  The 2012-2016 Teachers’ Collective Agreement contains a Letter of Understanding (LOU) – Pilot Project on Revised School Calendar that provides for piloting a revised Division calendar for 2014-2015 and 2015-2016.  The LOU has some requirements that take precedence over existing board policy and administrative regulations for the duration of the pilot project. Italicized text noted by an asterisk * and corresponding numbered addendum is suspended or, if also in parenthesis, amended for the duration of the pilot.

*Addendum 1:  Effective August 31, 2014 to August 31, 2016, section 1 is amended to read:  “Up to five professional development days per year may be held with the approval of the Superintendent of Schools for the purpose of furthering the Division’s and school’s goals and priorities.”

The LOU provides for up to five professional development days instead of three and centrally instead of locally established dates for all school professional development days.

*Addendum 2:  Effective August 31, 2014 to August 31, 2016, sections 2 and 3 are suspended.

The LOU provides for centrally established dates for all school professional development days and therefore transportation will be centrally coordinated on those dates.
