Kindergarten Registration

If your child is new to Edmonton Public Schools, you'll need to complete a Student Registration form. Schools start accepting new student registrations for the next school year on February 3, 2020. Applying after April 15, 2020 may limit your options to schools with available space. Learn more about registration dates and deadlines

Contact your preferred school to learn more about open house dates and Kindergarten orientation sessions.

Kindergarten Age

Use our calculator to find out when your child can start Kindergarten:

Select your child's year of birth:

Children who are five years old on or before December 31, 2020 may register in Kindergarten for the 2020-21 school year. The Alberta government changed the entry age for students registering in Kindergarten, beginning in the 2020-21 school year.

Note that a child must start Grade 1 if they are six years old on September 1 of that school year.

Choosing a School

Students are guaranteed entry to their designated school if registered (new students) or pre-enrolled (current students) no later than April 15. Use the Find a School tool to find your designated school.

A student may also attend any other school in the District, as long as:

  • the school has available space
  • the student meets any entrance criteria of that school

If the number of students who want to attend a school or program exceeds the available space, applicants from outside the school’s designated attendance area will be chosen by random selection.

Registration Form

To register with the District for the first time, a parent/guardian or independent student (over the age of 16 and living independently) will need to complete a Student Registration form.
