Languages

Learn a language other than English in our bilingual and immersion programs. Students can start in Kindergarten or Grade 1 without previous knowledge of the language. After Grade 1, entry is determined on an individual basis.

Learning a second language has many benefits, including:

• more awareness of cultural and linguistic diversity
• ability to communicate with more people
• improvements to abstract and creative thought
• deeper insight into your own culture and language
• meeting the entrance requirements of many post-secondary institutions
• future job opportunities

French Immersion programs are initially taught in French 100 per cent of the time. Instruction offered in French gradually decreases as the grades increase. Late French Immersion starts in Grade 7. 

Bilingual programs provide programming in the target language for up to 50 per cent of the school day. 

Students in a French Immersion or Bilingual program can achieve international language certification and recognition upon graduation.
