Tue, 19 Apr, 2022

News item: New provincial curriculum 2022

In September 2022, Kindergarten to Grade 6 students will learn new provincial curriculum in the following subjects and grades:

  • Physical Education and Wellness (K-6)
  • English Language Arts and Literature (K-3 only)
  • Mathematics (K-3 only)

The Government of Alberta determines the new curriculum content and timelines for implementation. The new provincial curriculum for social studies, fine arts, French language arts, and science won’t be implemented in September 2022.

What we are doing to prepare

In Edmonton Public Schools, 178 schools and approximately 55,000 students will learn this new curriculum in the 2022–23 school year.

Through the spring, we will focus on preparing staff and setting students up for success in September. Our Kindergarten to Grade 6 educators will have professional learning opportunities and access to teaching and learning resources to support new curriculum implementation.
