At the February 17, 2015 board meeting, Trustees unanimously passed a motion to write to the Education Minister, asking that the topic of consent be included in the sexual health curriculum so all students can learn about healthy boundaries.
"Our board agreed that learning about age-appropriate consent is essential for not only for Edmonton Public Schools’ students, but for all students in the province," said Board Chair Michal Janz. "Teaching about healthy relationships, in addition to respect, conduct and the law, is crucial.”
The Board also passed a motion that asks the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Board of Directors to reduce membership fees by 10 per cent to benefit Alberta students by maximizing the dollars that stay in the classroom. This item will be discussed at the ASBA’s annual General Meeting in June.
