The Edmonton Public School Board wants to connect with Edmonton MLAs and city council to increase awareness of infrastructure needs for Edmonton Public Schools students.
The school board unanimously passed this motion at their first board meeting of the school year on Tuesday afternoon. The Board would like the Provincial Government to provide a timeline for the construction of new schools consistent with the District’s Three-Year Capital Plan.
“We want to work collaboratively with elected officials to ensure they are aware of the District’s infrastructure needs,” said Board Chair Sarah Hoffman.
“The Board wants to offer more certainty moving forward. The voices of our families must be heard, so student needs are met. We are grateful for the announcements the province has made regarding new school construction and modernizations to date, but our needs are still significant.”
This year, the District is projecting an enrolment of almost 89,000 students which represents an increase of over 3,000 from the 2013-2014 school year.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Hoffman was acclaimed as board chair and Michael Janz as the board vice-chair for the 2014-2015 school year.
