Join our new committee to support cultural diversity

Our schools reflect Edmonton’s rich cultural and ethnic diversity, and we’re committed to making sure students from all backgrounds feel supported and included in their classrooms.
If you’re passionate about building a strong sense of belonging for all students in our schools, apply to join the District’s new Multiculturalism and Cultural Diversity Policy Review Advisory Committee. We’re accepting applications until 4 p.m. Feb. 20, 2019, to fill up to 25 volunteer positions on the committee.
WHAT’S INVOLVED?
Committee members will help District leaders understand a variety of community perspectives related to multiculturalism and diversity in education, as Edmonton Public Schools revises and updates its Multicultural Education policy.
The committee will help the District strengthen education by:
- reviewing the way Edmonton Public Schools approaches multicultural education
- examining challenges and opportunities around diversity in our schools
- providing information and advice to District leaders
- supporting inclusive and equitable learning environments for students with diverse backgrounds, needs and interests
Members of the committee are expected to:
- serve a two-year term
- attend three, two-hour meetings each school year at the Centre for Education
WHO CAN JOIN?
The Multiculturalism and Cultural Diversity Policy Review Advisory Committee will be made up of:
- parents and guardians
- community partners
- student representatives, invited through the Student Senate
- school and central staff
- school trustees
Committee members are chosen at the discretion of District administration, which seeks a balanced representation of:
- parents with children currently attending District schools, and
- other interested community members
Interviews may be arranged to help with the selection process.
