TELLING THE STORY OF READ IN WEEK 2015

Thu, 15 Oct, 2015

News item: Telling the story of READ IN Week 2015

Last week, we celebrated the 26th year of READ IN across Edmonton Public Schools. This year’s theme was Tell Me Your Story. Each book tells a story, in a unique voice. Each author takes you on a unique journey. Reading feeds your imagination. What's your story? Let books inspire you, create your own universe, and tell me your story! ‌

APPRECIATING THE CHARACTERS

Thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who visited schools to share their stories and love of reading with our students. Our schools opened their doors to many guests during READ IN Week 2015, including:

  • authors
  • athletes
  • politicians
  • media personalities
  • Trustees
  • our Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents
  • staff and students from other schools
  • retired teachers and principals
  • post-secondary students
  • first responders and members of the Edmonton Police Service
  • staff from the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate
  • moms, dads, grandparents and other family members
  • community members

THE PLOT THICKENS: A FEW READ IN 2015 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ms. Dunn boldly went where no READ IN guest has gone before and read to Westminster School students in Klingon, a language spoken by the fictional Klingon characters in Star Trek
  • M.E. LaZerte School leadership students visited several schools and read to over 500 younger students
  • Xeiko from the Edmonton Police Service Canine Unit paid a visit to students at Inglewood School

THE CONCLUSION

The week is over, but we’re still reading! Thank you to schools and volunteers for participating and sharing their READ IN stories and pictures on social media. We can’t wait for next year’s tale to unfold. Until then, keep reading!
