In March, we asked the public to suggest names for the new K–9 school in Keswick and to help us rename Dan Knott School. We received 268 unique name suggestions! After reviewing the submissions, a shortlist of recommendations was provided to the Board of Trustees for final selection.
At today’s public meeting, the Board of Trustees announced the new K–9 school in Keswick will be named Joey Moss School. We’re proud to name one of our new schools after Joey, who left a legacy in the hearts of Edmontonians.
Read more about Joey’s accomplishments and contributions to our city.
Several Indigenous names and terms were suggested to help rename Dan Knott School. We want to honour the feedback we heard from the community and will continue this process with in-person stakeholder engagement sessions.
We will be continuing work on this in the fall by engaging with Indigenous groups, staff, students and community members when public health restrictions are lifted. More information will be shared later this fall once sessions are scheduled.
The Oliver Community League is currently looking into options to rename the community. Edmonton Public Schools will look at the renaming Oliver School once the community engagement takes place.
