News item: Division requires staff and partners to be fully vaccinated

Starting in mid-October, Edmonton Public Schools will require employees to be fully vaccinated, unless they have an exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground or they participate in regular rapid testing to verify that they are COVID-19 negative.

Contractors, on-site partners and volunteers who enter our schools will also need to be fully vaccinated or verify that they are COVID-19 negative.

ADDITIONAL SAFETY MEASURE

Our priority throughout the pandemic has been the health and safety of our students, staff and families. This additional measure, in combination with the Division’s Back to School Plan, is a necessary step to protect our communities from COVID-19.

We based this decision on the health advice we currently have available to us from health authorities and medical experts. Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw has repeatedly said the most important thing adults can do to protect everyone, in particular children under 12 who are unable to be vaccinated, is to be fully immunized.

VACCINATIONS NOT REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS

Students in Edmonton Public Schools, regardless of age, are not required to be fully vaccinated to attend school.
