News item: Edmonton Public Schools receives strike notice from CUPE Local 3550

Edmonton Public Schools has received strike notice from CUPE Local 3550, the union that represents support staff who work in schools and central departments across the Division. The notice indicates the strike will begin Monday, January 13, 2025 at 7 a.m. at all Edmonton Public Schools locations.

Supporting students

While support staff are on strike, learning will continue. Schools have been working diligently on contingency plans to support continued learning.

Students who need specialized supports will be supported to continue learning. In some cases, students may be learning both in-person and at home. If you have specific questions about your individual circumstance, please contact your school principal.

Who is on strike?

CUPE Local 3550 represents a wide range of support staff who work directly with students and in our schools and central departments, including, but not limited to:

  • administrative assistants
  • administrative assistant mentors
  • clerks
  • educational assistants
  • educational assistant mentors
  • food preparers
  • interpreters
  • library technicians
  • licensed practical nurses
  • speech language pathology assistants
  • supply educational assistants
  • technicians
