News item: Learning options in 2022–23

As families start thinking about the upcoming year and schools host virtual open houses, we’re sharing information to help you enrol in the school and program that are right for your child.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR NEW STUDENTS

Students who are new to Edmonton Public Schools, such as Kindergarten students, can register for the 2022–23 school year starting on February 1. You can register at any of our schools throughout the year, but applying after April 14, 2022 may limit your options.

PRE-ENROLMENT BEGINS MARCH 8

Students who already attend a Division school can pre-enrol next month. Sign in to SchoolZone between Tuesday, March 8 at 9 a.m. and April 14 at 4 p.m. to select your preferred school for 2022-23.

IMPORTANT: Registration and pre-enrolment are not first-come, first-served, so take time to research your options and find the school and program that work best for your family.

SAFETY IS OUR FOCUS

Students, families and staff have continued to come together to focus on student safety. As the pandemic has evolved, our Division’s goal has been to return students to in-person learning.

We know that most students learn best in person and benefit from all the experiences and supports available at school. We look forward to welcoming students to in-person classes this fall.

ONLINE LEARNING AT ARGYLL CENTRE

Families of Grade 1–12 students who would like their child to learn online in 2022–23 can register or pre-enrol at Argyll Centre. Online learning will no longer be available at other Division schools.

Argyll Centre’s live online teacher instruction is similar to the online learning format that was offered at all schools this past year. However, there are limited programming options through Argyll Centre. Families interested in Argyll Centre can contact the school for details about their programming and learning options.

Families who pre-enrol at Argyll Centre will not be connected to their current or designated school and may not be guaranteed a space there for the 2023–24 school year.

KINDERGARTEN

Kindergarten programming will be available in person for the 2022–23 school year.

Families who decide not to send their child to Kindergarten can still register them for Grade 1 the following year. Kindergarten programming is optional for families in Alberta.

MORE INFORMATION

As vaccination rates among children continue to climb, we look forward to having students learn in person this fall. We will continue to follow public health guidance and adjust to help keep students and staff as safe as possible during the 2022–23 school year.
