Renaming Dan Knott School

Fri, 28 Jan, 2022

News item: Renaming Dan Knott School

BACKGROUND

In spring 2021, we asked Edmontonians to share their ideas for renaming Dan Knott School. The feedback we received suggested the new school name should be an Indigenous term or phrase. To do this, more consultation is needed.

JOIN US ONLINE TO SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS

While we hoped to do more engagement in-person, cases of COVID-19 in the community continue to be high. To keep everyone safe, we are holding the engagement online. We invite families and the community to join us for this important conversation:

MEETING DATE: Tuesday, February 8, 2022
TIME: 78 p.m.
LOCATION: Online (sign-up).

Registration closes on February 7 at 12 p.m. Attendees will receive the meeting link by email.

Students will share their thoughts at engagement sessions held earlier in the day at the school. The students will complete these sessions safely within their class cohorts.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During the online engagement, we’ll be asking for your ideas and feedback about things like:

  • What do you love about the community?
  • How does the community make you feel?
  • What are the strengths of this community?

NEXT STEPS

We’ll share the feedback from students and the community with the Indigenous Naming Committee, which is a group of Indigenous leaders and Elders. The committee will review the feedback and work together to come up with a name for the school. The committee will present the name to the Board of Trustees before the end of the school year.
