Welcoming back Summerside South at Michael Strembitsky School

Edmonton Public Schools is excited to announce Summerside South will be included in the designated attendance area for Michael Strembitsky School for the 2023–24 school year.
Previous growth pressures at Michael Strembitsky School caused Edmonton Public Schools to take a number of growth control measures, including redesignating the Summerside South neighbourhood to Jan Reimer School.
After carefully monitoring enrolment for the last few years, enrolment pressures have eased at Michael Strembitsky School. At the same time, enrolment pressures at Jan Reimer School have increased. Redesignating Summerside South to Michael Strembitsky School will allow students to attend school closer to home, while also helping manage growth at Jan Reimer School.
Growth Control Model Updates
- Michael Strembitsky School will remain at Level 2 on the Growth Control Model; enrolment will continue to be limited to the attendance area only, through closed boundaries
- Jan Reimer School will be moving to Level 3 on the Growth Control Model for September 2023 and will be using the lottery process to manage incoming enrolment of new Edmonton Public Schools students

Getting to school
As Michael Strembitsky School is located within the Summerside community, students are not eligible for yellow bus service.
Staying at Jan Reimer School
Students from the Summerside South area who are currently attending Jan Reimer School can stay at the school, if they wish. However, yellow bus service for students attending Jan Reimer School will not be available, as they will no longer be attending their designated school.
Registration and pre-enrolment
New students to Edmonton Public Schools will be able to register from February 1 to April 14, 2023. Current Edmonton Public Schools students can pre-enrol between March 6 and April 14, 2023.
