News item: Choose how your child will learn for Quarter 3

Families can now choose how their child(ren) will learn for Quarter 3—either in person or online.

Starting at 8 a.m. December 28, 2020 families can sign in to SchoolZone to make their choice for Quarter 3, which runs from February 1 to April 20. (Because there are no classes February 1, students will start their learning for Quarter 3 on February 2.)

The deadline to let us know your choice is 4 p.m. on January 8, 2021. Whether you’re continuing with the same learning option or switching, all families must make a selection.

MAKE YOUR SELECTION IN SCHOOLZONE

Follow these step-by-step instructions when signed into your parent account on SchoolZone:

  • select Forms from the menu at the top of your screen
  • choose Additional Forms
  • select Family Choice - Quarter 3 (click anywhere on the row)
  • review the information sheet (you may need to download it depending on your device)
  • click Respond
  • choose from the drop-down menus to answer the questions
  • click Submit

Families need to complete the form for each child enrolled at Edmonton Public Schools.

Families who do not have access to SchoolZone can contact their school with their choice once schools reopen on January 4, 2021.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE FAMILY CHOICE DEADLINE

The family choice deadline plays an important role to make sure schools have enough teaching staff assigned to both online and in-person classes for Quarter 3.

Students will not be able to switch from in-person to online learning once the deadline has passed. If a student wants to shift from online learning to in-person learning, the family should contact their school principal to find out if there is room in a specific grade.

The Division will do its best to keep online students with the same teacher and learning group from one quarter to the next, but these may change in some cases.
