Earlier this year, the Division shared information with families about implementing the Canadian Achievement Test, Fourth Version (CAT4) in 2021–22.
The CAT4 will be administered between September 20 and 29, 2021, and again in May 2022, for the following students:
The CAT4 assessment will support ongoing work in literacy and numeracy, and will provide schools and teachers with information they can use to plan for teaching and learning, as well as for supports and interventions. The goal of administering the CAT4 assessment is to provide teachers and schools with information about student achievement in the fall and their growth by the spring. While teachers will not use the CAT4 results as part of the progress report, they will discuss the assessment and results with families at virtual parent-teacher conferences.
Exemptions and accommodations for students who require them will be determined at each school.
Students learning in person will have access to Division Chromebooks for the CAT4. Families with students learning online at home are encouraged to contact their school to borrow a Chromebook if they do not have one.
There will be an online systems test on either September 9 or 10, 2021 for some in-person and online students in the Division. This is similar to the systems test performed in June 2021. The online systems test will only take 15 minutes and ensures everything works smoothly. Students are not being tested or graded, but will be guided by their teachers to simply sign in and complete a small number of sample test items.
