    Traveling Art Project Inspires Students and Staff Across the District

    For a week in March, Eastglen School students and staff shared their inner ambitions, written in chalk on a two-sided, 8-foot high and 20-foot wide wall. Beginning with the words, “Before I die I want to _______________,” students and staff filled the blank space with their own heartfelt desires.

    Revised School Year Calendars

    The 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school year calendars for Edmonton Public Schools have changed. Over the next two school years, there will be more professional development (PD) days for teachers and one more day in lieu for time they have invested in parent-teacher conferences. Although students will have a few extra days off, they will still receive the same amount of instructional time due to slightly longer school days.

    Planning for joint public and catholic school bus service

    Edmonton Public Schools and Edmonton Catholic Schools will work together to create the Edmonton Student Transportation Authority (ESTA). The proposed ESTA is targeted for full implementation in the fall of 2016 and will improve efficiency, reduce ride times and reduce costs for both school districts, by roughly $2.5 million each year.

    Art takes Shape at Highlands School

    Highlands School’s guest artist Keith Walker recently installed his glass sculpture at the Muttart Conservatory. Keith did the hot glass work in his home studio and then brought the pieces to Highlands to construct the sculpture.

    Grandview Heights' Student Aces Citizenship Challenge

    Historica Canada has named Rahul Bhutani, a Grade 8 student at Grandview Heights School, one of the winners of the 2013 Citizenship Challenge. Out of 57,000 participants, 14-year-old Rahul was received “Student Citizen of the Year” for getting 100 per cent on the challenge and won an all-expenses paid trip to Ottawa.

    On February 19, 2014 at the Inspiring Education Symposium, the Minister of Education announced that Edmonton Public Schools had been selected to be part of their Provincial Curriculum Development Prototyping initiative

    Grade 5, 6 and 7 students from Mee-Yah-Noh, Norwood, Spruce Avenue, Delton and John A. McDougall schools flexed their creative muscles on February 20 and 21.

    Launch of Crime Stoppers Youth Program

    A Crime Stoppers Youth program launched yesterday at two north Edmonton high schools. Students will soon be able to use their smartphones to report crime though an anonymous Crime Stoppers Youth tip line.

    On Pink Shirt Day, February 26, 2014, students and staff across the district donned pink attire to celebrate safe, inclusive and supportive environments for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity.
